The Ph.D. aims to train excellent researchers in the field of Psychology, capable of producing relevant knowledge autonomously and possessing the necessary skills to transmit and engage their research in complex and diverse academic disciplinary scenarios, particularly within its three major areas or lines of research:

  • Social Psychology: Subjects and Social Practices
  • Clinical Psychology, Psychotherapy, and Psychoanalysis
  • Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences

The distinctive features of its educational project include pluralism in its approach to psychological knowledge, internationalization, continuous monitoring of curricular progression, and the promotion of its students’ integration into various research centers and projects within the Faculty.

Upon completing the study program, the Doctor in Psychology from UDP will be able to recognize and value the diversity and plurality of investigative scenarios in psychology. They will possess highly specialized knowledge in one of the program’s thematic concentration areas, be capable of designing and implementing valid and consistent methodological strategies for a specific research problem, and will be ready to develop and defend a doctoral thesis.

Al finalizar su formación, el/la Doctor/a en Psicología de la UDP:

  1. Tendrá un acervo de conocimientos actualizados y especializados sobre tópicos fundamentales en psicología.
  2. Podrá identificar las dimensiones históricas, epistemológicas, disciplinares e interdisciplinares que registran los debates investigativos contemporáneos en su área de concentración temática.
  3. Podrá reconocer los debates relativos al pluralismo de la psicología y participar de ellos.
  4. Poseerá las destrezas para diseñar y desarrollar investigaciones originales en el campo de la psicología, principalmente en su área de especialización, con miras a contribuir a la reflexión, el debate y la producción de conocimientos disciplinarios, a nivel nacional e internacional.

El plan de estudios tiene una duración total de 8 semestres. Los cuatro primeros semestres conforman el ciclo habilitante y los cuatro restantes el ciclo terminal.

El ciclo habilitante contempla:

Dos Seminarios Teóricos Disciplinarios, dos Seminarios Metodológicos Disciplinarios, dos talleres Metodológicos, dos Optativos de Profundización, Simposios Doctorales y de Investigación. En el tercer y cuarto semestre el estudiante deberá rendir y aprobar consecutivamente, Examen de Calificación y Examen de Candidatura.

El ciclo terminal contempla:

Realización de una Estadía en el extranjero de al menos 1 mes de duración, Simposios Doctorales y Simposios de Investigación. Al concluir el octavo semestre, se entrega la tesis escrita, para posteriormente rendir el examen de defensa de tesis en forma oral.

La Tutoría y Ejecución de Tesis es una actividad de carácter permanente, que comienza en el primer semestre y se extiende hasta la culminación de la tesis. En el primer semestre se le asigna a cada estudiante una/a profesor/a tutor/a considerando el tema de tesis y las líneas investigativas de los académicos del programa.

Licenciados/as o grado equivalente en Psicología. También podrán postular, previa evaluación, Licenciados/as o grados equivalentes en otras disciplinas, afines a las áreas de investigación ofrecidas por el programa.

At the time of application, applicants must submit the following documentation:

  • The UDP Doctoral Program in Psychology is intended for individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related discipline obtained in Chile. In accordance with national regulations, applicants who completed their studies abroad must provide proof of a degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, in accordance with Chilean legislation.
  • Availability of time and material resources to dedicate exclusively to the Doctoral Program for a total of 44 hours per week, including mandatory daytime classes on weekdays. The program may allow up to 11 hours for academic or professional activities, subject to prior evaluation.
  • Reading proficiency in English consistent with the disciplinary requirements of the program. This competency must be certified through the results of a recognized English language test (TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, EF SET https://www.efset.org/, or equivalent).
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and, where applicable, Master’s degree certificate granted by a national or foreign university.
  • Curriculum vitae, following the standardized format.
  • Copy of National Identity Card or Passport (for international applicants).
  • A statement of purpose, no longer than two pages, explaining the applicant’s motivation for entering the Program.
  • A research proposal, with a maximum length of two pages, outlining the topic the applicant wishes to investigate during the Doctorate.
  • A sworn statement certifying proficiency in at least one foreign language relevant to the area of research.
  • Academic transcripts and graduation ranking for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (if applicable).
  • A signed declaration confirming availability of time to dedicate to the program.
  • Two letters of recommendation from academics and/or researchers, following the required format.

In the event that applicants are unable to provide their undergraduate graduation ranking certificate because their undergraduate institution does not issue such rankings or has been revoked, they must explicitly certify this condition through a document issued by the undergraduate institution or by the Ministry of Education, as applicable.

Certificates issued by foreign universities must be legalized in the country where the degree was granted.

The selection process and criteria are established in the Program Regulations, which specify the weighting assigned to each application requirement.

In the name of each file, keep the original number and file name indicated, and add your surname in uppercase letters at the beginning.

1. Curriculum Vitae: According to the program format.
You may include up to 3 relevant publications (if applicable, attach the texts at the end of the CV).

2. Identification: Copy of National Identity Card or Passport (for international applicants).

3. English Proficiency: Certificate demonstrating reading comprehension proficiency, based on standardized tests (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, EF SET, or equivalent).

4. Academic Certificates: Legalized copy of the Bachelor’s degree certificate (and Master’s degree certificate, if applicable). -If the degree was obtained abroad, it must be legalized in the country of origin.

5. Academic Transcripts and Graduation Ranking: Certificate of grades and graduation ranking for the Bachelor’s degree.

  • If you hold a Master’s degree, you must also include transcripts, thesis abstract, name of the supervisor, and grades.
  • If your institution does not issue a graduation ranking, you must provide an official certificate stating this.
  • Grade Conversion (for applicants with studies completed abroad):
  • Official certificate converting grades to the Chilean grading scale.

8. Letters of Recommendation: Two letters, according to the available format (may be submitted in Spanish or English).

9. Sworn Statement of Full-Time Dedication: If selected, applicants must submit a notarized declaration, according to the available format, certifying availability of 44 hours per week for the program, including daytime classes.

  • (ESP) Como estudiante de este Doctorado realicé mi pasantía internacional en el Departamento de Metodología de las Ciencias del Comportamiento de la Universidad de Sevilla, experiencia que fue central para el avance de mi tesis doctoral, ya que pude trabajar con un equipo académico altamente especializado en análisis de datos complejos. Gracias al apoyo entregado por los académicos del programa, llegué preparada a España y pude sacar el máximo provecho a la estadía.

  • (ESP) El Doctorado da la posibilidad de tomar cursos optativos sin límite de temáticas y organizar los créditos en función de nuestro proyecto de tesis, más que guiarse por una línea curricular fija. Rescato poder ser parte de una comunidad científica reflexiva, diversa y plural, que da espacios de desarrollo y creatividad a los doctorandos sin perder de vista la orientación al desarrollo de capital humano avanzado.

  • (ESP) El programa promueve que los estudiantes podamos comprender y profundizar en distintas aproximaciones psicológicas que nos permiten, desde distintos lugares, abordar nuestro problema de investigación. Actualmente soy investigadora doctorante del Centro Núcleo Milenio NUMAAP, experiencia que ha nutrido mi proceso de investigación doctoral, permitiéndome reflexionar en torno al lugar de la autoridad en el mundo del trabajo y las organizaciones.

  • (ESP) Lo que más valoro de mi experiencia como doctorante de la Escuela de Psicología UDP es que se haya logrado conformar y mantener una cultura de diálogo que no he percibido en otros programas de postgrado similares. El Doctorado destaca por ser un espacio abierto de discusión académica entre investigadoras e investigadores de tres áreas teórico-metodológicas diversas del campo de la psicología actual.
