]]> Mathematical creativity refers to the ability to create solutions, relationships, or questions, taking into account the specific nature of the mathematical domain. Its development is of great relevance to promote individuals’ capacity to use mathematics in everyday, professional, and scientific contexts. This research aimed to understand how didactic environments affected the mathematical creativity of Chilean students in 5th grade.

The study employed a sequential mixed-methods design. The first quantitative phase analyzed the relationship between students’ creative productions and the didactic environments they were immersed in. In the second qualitative phase, two cases were studied to characterize how classroom dimensions operated together to enable or constrain the emergence of new ideas in the classroom.

]]> This research focuses on the relationship between higher education and the world of work to situate and examine dynamics of change and organizational adaptation of Chilean universities through the development of new management capacities associated with a global employability agenda.To this end; the emergence and spread of employability as a concept; practice and political instrument in higher education worldwide was analysed. The Chilean case was looked into as an iconic example of the economic transformations that the global university sector is currently experimenting. A detailed empiric examination of the main aspects of the discourses on employability in Chile was carried out. The national scenario was described in terms of the insertion and functioning of new management capacities to boost employability at universities. Finally; the origin; development and status of these organisational capacities in relation to the evolution of the formal structure of said organisations was studied in depth.The results allow for the visualisation of significant effects of pressures that comes from universities’ institutional environments. At the same time; it reveals ways in which market disputes become opaque and are ideologically neutralised under the blanket of supposedly shared global aspirations; such as what occurs with the employability agenda.

La entrada University governance from the perspective of agency theory: opening the black box se publicó primero en Doctorados UDP.

]]> The aim of this research is to contribute to the academic discussion on the problem universities face regarding their capacity to function as integrated organisations. This study analyses the universities’ capacity to coordinate different internal interests based on common aims. Three Chilean institutions were considered: a state university; a traditional private university and a private university. The evidence demonstrates different scenarios for internal strategic alignment are mainly influenced by the power balance produced between the three institutional governance components: the upper-level managerial body; the central administration and the faculties. This balance is conditioned by three factors: first; the governance arrangements that regulate the power balance between the three internal governance components and their capacity to promote coherence and alignment. The second element is associated with the individual capacities of those who exercise high-up or mid-level managerial positions; whether individuals or collegiate. The results show that personal skills and proficiency can either boost or weaken the role of the authorities and their degree of influence in decision-making. The third factor is linked to the individual interests that motivate the behaviour and preferences of those who form part of the three institutional governance components.

]]> Early mathematical skills play an important role in the academic performance of children and adolescents as they determine differences in the pace and level of learning. This research aimed to characterize the teaching practices of early childhood educators during moments of mathematical instruction. Through a mixed-methodological approach, the tasks, strategies, and interactions deployed by the educators were studied, along with the factors related to the adoption of specific practices. Ultimately, the impact of these practices on the learning of boys and girls was determined. Additionally, examples of good practices in early mathematics teaching were identified, providing guidance on how to promote learning processes in Chilean classrooms.

]]> Within the framework of the enactment of a set of educational policies by the State aimed at promoting greater equity and quality in the school system, this research delves into the implementation of inclusive school policies by special education teachers.

This qualitative research was conducted in two phases: in the first stage, 10 special education teachers from the Metropolitan Region were interviewed, and subsequently, in a second phase, a case study was conducted with 2 teachers, following an ethnographic orientation for an academic semester.

Tensions in the identity of these teachers are identified, as well as contradictions and multiple barriers to the implementation of legislations. Additionally, evidence was found of the development of counter-conducts and resistances by these educators, in response to demands from their schools related to the standardization of students for the SIMCE assessment and the referral of students with greater learning difficulties to special education establishments.

]]> Mathematics and Educational Technology Professor, Master’s in Mathematics Education, and additional studies in Human Rights Education and Qualitative Methods for Social Research. He has worked as a teacher in undergraduate programs, teacher training, and extracurricular enrichment programs, focusing on mathematics education and the development of computational thinking. Currently, he is a professor in the Pedagogy in Mathematics program at Universidad Alberto Hurtado and a coordinator for the website GeometriaDinamica.cl, a platform that promotes geometry learning with technology. Over the past nine years, he has held coordination roles at four universities, participating in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of projects related to equity policies in Higher Education. These projects include Academic Leveling Scholarships, Performance Agreements, and the Program for Accompaniment and Effective Access to Higher Education (PACE).

I have professionally worked in management and research positions at state universities, such as the Faculty of Law at the Universidad de Chile and the Department of Quality and Accreditation at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Additionally, I have actively participated in forums focused on dialogue and active engagement in educational debates, such as the Center for Studies of the Student Federation of the Universidad de Chile (which I co-directed in 2013) and the Education Studies Group of the Nodo XXI Foundation. From the latter, I have coordinated technical reports and provided parliamentary advice on matters related to financing and political economy of higher education.
